I took my bike to the trail today (rode 9.9 miles woot), and since I was already driving the truck to haul the bike, I decided to cruise through the countryside a bit. Even gave it a little Italian tune up. The 4.3 sounds mean. But, sounding mean is about all it does. I think a few of those 190 horses have died since 1995.
This spring, the truck will need its a/c recharged (eventually it’ll need a new compressor but right now it’s cheaper and easier to recharge it once a year) and some slight surface rust has started above the left rear wheel, so I want to nip that in the bud really quickly.
She photographs a lot better than she looks. ‘Murica.

I miss my S10, I had a extended cab 4.3 5 speed rwd. The power was pretty good with rwd and stick.

Look up the throttle blade mod for the 4.3L. It doesn’t add power (at least not peak power) but it should improve throttle response.

An exhaust system would be a good way to revive a few of those horses.
When the muffler blew off of Crusty it acted like a whole new truck. Turns out the original muffler collapsed internally.

God only knows what's up with the exhaust that's on there. One of the previous owners decided the truck needed a Cherry Bomb, if that tells you anything.

That rules out the muffler..
Nothing wrong with a Cherry bomb.

I always read that the 4.3 responds well to free flowing exhaust and a bigger intake, but I've never felt the need to spend the money on mine, that money would be better spent on reviving the tragic suspension, or getting a new transmission....but that's not what you do to beater trucks. I had a friend with an S10 that he bolted a full Flowmaster 40 system to, and a K&N filter that he mounted somewhere it actually got cold air, that thing felt a lot quicker than my Blazer

It's alright but it sort of has a ratty sound to it, although I haven't found any holes in it.
